Report back from the Center for Cultural Innovation’s Convening: A Better World is Possible

By April Doner (Next System Studies), Gabriel Gonzales (NSS)
On July 30, 2026, a delegation from Next System Studies attended the Center for Cultural Innovation‘s convening in Berkeley, which explored collectively-owned systems across sectors including art, education, health, finance, and housing. The event featured a solidarity fair and a World Building Design Lab where participants designed cooperative solutions to sector-specific scenarios. The delegation found a broad appetite for next-system conversations, affirmed the value of academic frameworks while noting the need for bridge-building with grassroots practice, and left with new connections and strengthened commitment to community-directed work. The report can be found here.
